Short Bio
Kristina Farstad Bjørdal, born in 1990, is an accomplished accordionist who began playing at the age of 5, inspired by her father. She is is a versatile and sought-after musician with expertise in a wide range of genres. She is educated in classical and contemporary music, and also performs folk music, entertainment music, dance music, and improvisation. She holds a master's degree in classical accordion from the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Kristina has won multiple gold medals at the Norwegian Accordion Championships in various categories, including solo, duets, traditional dance music groups, and orchestral music.
In 2021, Kristina received the Bolstad Prize for her contributions to traditional accordion music. Her performance career spans several countries, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the UK, Iceland, Germany, Switzerland, and Croatia. She has also been a guest on radio programs in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands.
In addition to her performance career, Kristina is the leader of the Fjord Orchestra and the project manager for NordAccordion, a classical accordion festival in Voss. She collaborates with several musicians, including Jorun Marie Kvernberg, Britt Pernille Frøholm, Britt Elise Skram and Marius Berglund. As well as jazz musician Carl Petter Opsahl, and world famous classical accordionist Geir Draugsvoll. She is part of several folk music groups. Her work demonstrates her dedication to both classical and folk music, and her strong connections with prominent musicians in the music scene.
